Career Assistance

Career change has become a way of life in our society, sometimes as a result of choice, sometimes as a result of unanticipated circumstances. If you are considering a change of careers, our advisors can help. We administer interest inventories (at a nominal fee), examine existing skills, and provide information on specific careers or academic majors.

Academic Assistance

Adult Learner Services sponsors an orientation program for new or returning adult students each fall and spring semester. Our program is different from the orientation program required for traditional students. A central feature of our program is a panel of current nontraditional students who share their personal experiences and suggestions for success at BGSU. Participants have the opportunity to meet other students while learning about the of services available on campus.

We offer the English and math placement tests in our office for incoming students who must determine placement. Both of these placement tests are now available online for students who choose to take them in the online format. If a student has limited Internet access or would rather take placement exams in a traditional paper and pencil format, we are able to provide this service.

Our advisors can assist in planning your academic schedule. Every student at BGSU has an assigned advisor. We can assist students with academic questions prior to official admission to the University. Adult Learner Services advisors act as adjuncts to your primary advisor and we can help fill in the gaps or assist with academic issues that may be unique to adult or evening students. We serve as advocates for adult students on our campus who may need assistance.
